Walking in the Finished Work of Jesus: Dead to Sin, Alive in Faith

In Romans 6, the Bible clearly declares that we are "dead indeed to sin." The idea of being dead to sin is not a mere metaphor but a spiritual truth that transforms our identity in Christ. As believers, we are no longer bound by sin, for Jesus has already purged us from it. The notion of walking in sin while we are dead to it is inconceivable. We cannot walk in the ways of sin if we have truly died to it. Just as a dead person cannot respond to the world around them, we, too, have been rendered spiritually dead to sin. This is a critical aspect of our Christian walk—embracing the finished work of Jesus and walking in agreement with His truth.

One of the greatest errors in modern Christianity is the persistent focus on sin. Preaching and meditating on sin constantly keeps us in a mindset of condemnation, guilt, and shame. Yet, according to the New Testament, the emphasis should not be on sin but on faith in the finished work of Jesus. When we focus on sin, we are denying the truth that we have already been delivered from it. The Bible teaches us that we are blameless, holy, and unrebuked in God's sight. This is how God sees us—free from sin and purified by the blood of Jesus. It’s time we align ourselves with that truth, stop obsessing over sin, and instead, declare our freedom and victory over it.

Take, for example, the issue of poverty. In the world’s eyes, struggling financially can feel like an insurmountable problem, but according to the New Testament, poverty is a form of sin because it is short of God's glorious provision. The solution is not to work harder, hustle, or condemn ourselves, but to rest in the grace that has been given to us. By declaring that we are "dead to poverty," we can embrace God's abundance, speak blessings over our finances, and trust that He has already provided for us. It’s not about striving; it’s about resting in faith, knowing that the finished work of Jesus has already broken every curse, including that of poverty.

This mindset shift requires spiritual intelligence—the ability to see beyond our circumstances and walk in the truth of God's Word. When we face challenges, whether it’s a financial need, a health issue, or personal failure, our response should be one of faith, not unbelief. The Bible clearly teaches that the only "sin" in the New Testament is unbelief. When we fail to believe the promises of God, we are operating in a mindset that is contrary to His will. The law of sin and death was replaced by the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. We are no longer subject to punishment for sin but have been set free to live by grace, led by the Holy Spirit.

As we grow in understanding, we realize that the New Testament is not about living under the law, or striving for perfection. It’s about walking in the grace of God, being led by the Spirit, and living in the finished work of Jesus. The law of sin and death has been abolished, and in its place is the law of the Spirit of life. Our job is to agree with this truth and live in it daily. When we align our beliefs with God's Word, we walk in freedom, grace, and victory. As we continue to grow in this truth, our lives will reflect the holiness and righteousness that comes not from striving, but from simply resting in Jesus' completed work.
